DEL RIO, TX — The Republican congressman who represents Del Rio, Tony Gonzales, strongly requested ICE to utilize Laughlin Air Force Base to transport illegal aliens via aircraft into the interior of the country, a press release on June 5 we unearthed reveals.
In the press release, Gonzales pleads with Biden appointee Acting Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Jennifer Miller, to use the runways at Laughlin AFB “to fly migrants to their final destination, rather than releasing them in the Del Rio area.”
“By utilizing Laughlin Air Force Base, ICE could address the high number of migrant releases and alleviate the pressure that this crisis has inflicted on border communities,” Gonzales stated about the letter.
The flights out of Laughlin AFB came under fire when Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson dedicated a segment of his show on Tuesday to condemn the transport of illegal aliens into the interior of the nation. Carlson argued that the introduction of non-citizen aliens from the border invasion is transforming American communities without American citizens having a voice.
Wednesday, an ICE-contracted Boeing 737 departed Laughlin AFB presumably full of illegal aliens bound for Alexandria, Louisiana.
In the Carlson segment, the TV commentator said he was tipped off about the flights when a whistleblower at Laughlin AFB, presumably an instructor or student pilot in the 87th Flying Training Squadron, forwarded an email to Carlson’s staff of 87 FTS Commander Matthew Burrows ordering his troops to not reveal details about the unusual 737 operations ongoing on Laughlin AFB’s tarmac. Carlson then asked where are the illegal aliens going? He concluded that the operation could be a plan by the Biden administration to change the electoral map.
“Serving the businesses that paid for you to get elected are we? Yes we are. What you’re watching is demographic transformation. In our country, without our consent and in violation of our laws. That is happening. Our job is to shut up and accept it. We know they will call us names if we don’t accept it, but no thanks. What’s happening, what they are doing, is wrong. It is, moreover, a violation of the most and basic promise of democracy, which is that citizens get to control who runs the government. We as citizens have an absolute right to know what exactly they are doing and we are going to try to learn,” Carlson said on the air.
The Biden administration ditched the Trump administration’s Remain in Mexico policy and conservative commentators like Carlson believe the new open borders policy that replaced it is intentional.
Alexandria sits in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and is represented by Republican Julia Letlow who won the March 2021 special election with 64.9 percent of the vote. Her district is 61% white, 5.9% black, and 1.8% Hispanic. But the passengers on that 737 may or may not be released into the general population there.
Alexandria’s airport, the former England Air Force Base, has a staging area for ICE detainees. According to Syracuse University who published open data on ICE facilities, detainees remain in the Alexandria facility approximately 4 days before being transferred. During the last 12 months, however, 37 percent, or 2,491, illegal aliens remained in the Alexandria region.
Gonzales admitted in his letter to the Air Force secretary that ICE, under the Biden administration, is releasing illegal migrants into U.S. communities, specifically Del Rio, in his district. He just did not want all of them released into the Del Rio community.
“As a result, substantial numbers of migrants, pending trial, are being released into communities in my district, overwhelming local resources and creating unsustainable bottlenecks,” Gonzales wrote to Miller back in June.
We reached out to Gonzales for comment, but so far, he has not returned our emails.
Gonzales has come under fire from conservative Republicans in his district for not being steadfast against what they see as a leftist onslaught on the country, with the Biden administration’s open borders policy being a critical issue in the current political arena.
Gonzales, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump during last year’s hotly contested Republican primary, voted against Trump’s second impeachment when Trump was accused of inciting the January 6th riot at the US Capitol, as did most House Republicans. However, earlier, Gonzales did not object to Pennsylvania’s or Arizona’’s electors. Gonzales came under the most fire from the right when he voted in favor of a House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s commission to investigate the January 6 riot. Despite Gonzales’ support, the measure was stalled in the US Senate where Republicans blocked the creation of the commission.
We interviewed Gonzales in our studios in 2020 during the Republican primary. Watch it here.
