SAN ANGELO, TX – United States Congressman August Pfluger of San Angelo Thursday announced he is introducing legislation to rename the San Angelo Veterans Administration Clinic after the late Col. Charles E. Powell and his wife Joanne Powell.
At a ceremony in the O.C. Federal Courthouse Thursday Pfluger detailed his plan to rename the facility after Col. Charles Powell who was a commander at Goodfellow Air Force Base from 1980 to 1984. Col. Powell retired from the Air Force and the couple remained in San Angelo and active in civic events including assisting local students to apply and be accepted to military schools.
Joanne Powell was a long time Congressional staffer in San Angelo and ran the local District Office for many years. Pfluger says Joanne Powell 'trained' four Congressmen: Tom Loeffler, Lamar Smith, Mike Conaway and Pfluger.
