ASU to Host Theatre Festival

 

Angelo State University will host the 2015 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for Region VI Tuesday-Saturday, Feb. 24-28, at various venues on campus, including the ASU Auditorium, Modular Theatre and C.J. Davidson Conference Center.

About 800 college students are expected to gather at ASU to perform and compete in the Region VI festival. Region VI includes about 200 college theatre programs from across Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. This is the first time ASU’s University Theatre program will host the Region VI festival.

A highlight of the festival will be performances of six full-length invited productions, “Marcus; or The Secrets of Sweet” from Texas Southern University; “In & Between” from Texas Wesleyan University; “Delta V” from the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith; “Benghal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” from the University of New Orleans; “Woyzeck” from the University of Central Oklahoma; and “Machinal” from Sam Houston State University.

In addition, the festival will feature readings from five student-written plays, “Stones in the Desert” from Texas A&M University-Kingsville; “Nunca Olividaré” from Texas Tech University; “Moises” from Sul Ross State University; “Give Me Shelter Tambien” from the University of Arkansas; and “Bury Me” from the University of Oklahoma.ASU University Theatre will perform a scene from “Watson: The Last Great Tale of the Legendary Sherlock Holmes” as one of 29 theatre programs invited to perform scenes at this year’s festival.

Performances will be held in the ASU Auditorium in the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Avenue N, and in the Modular Theatre, Eldon Black Recital Hall and Studio Theatre, all located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The Region VI Design/Tech/Management Expo and Workshops will be held in the C.J. Davidson Center in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Performances of the six invited productions are open to the public with limited seating. If space is available, tickets will be $10, cash only, at the door of the venue. A schedule of the shows will be posted at www.kcactf6.org by Feb. 16.
