Second Midlander Earns Spot At Tokyo Olympics

 

MIDLAND, TX -- A second Midland High alum will be representing the United States at the Summer Olympics.

The new qualifier is 23-years-old and attends the University of Kansas. Bryce Hoppel is a distance runner that came in third at the 800 meters race at the U.S. Track and Field Trials. 

Hoppel ran the two laps around the track in 1:44.14, this earns him a spot to compete in Tokyo.

Hoppel has a slew of career highlights that include National Relay Championships Meet Record (800 Meters), 2019 Indoor National Champion, 2019 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and more.

The Midland High alum will be competing with Clayton Murphy and Isaiah Jewett.

Hoppel is the second Midland High alum to make the 2021 Olympic team. The first was swimmer Natalie Hinds.
