SAN ANGELO, TX -- More than 150 years after the last slaves were freed in the south, this Saturday is the first Juneteenth that will be observed as a federal holiday.
In order to commemorate the day, the Blackshear Height Family non-profit will be hosting a Juneteenth parade this Saturday. For more information check out the Blackshear Heights Family Facebook page.
The San Angelo community is invited to participate in the family-friendly event. Participants are asked to begin at 8:45 a.m. at Carver Learning center, located t 301 W. 9th Street.
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m.
After the parade families and community members are invited to stop by Martin Luther King Park for a cook-off, 3-on-3 basketball, talent show, poetry, art contest, and more.
