Blue Alert Issued for Suspect Accused of Shooting Officer

RHOME, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert for a suspect accused of shooting at a police officer.

According to authorities, Wise County Sheriff's deputies and Rhome police officers attempted to intercept 43-year-old Royce Wood near Highway 287.

Police had received a tip stating that Wood, who is a suspect in a home robbery invasion, was in the area aboard a motorcycle with a female companion.

After the police officer initiated the traffic stop, Wood got off the motorcycle and began running away. As officers chased him on foot, Wise shot at the officers.

He would ultimately shoot one of the officers in the lower leg. The officer is expected to be okay.

We're exceedingly fortunate. We're very happy that the officer's doing well. We feel pretty good about his condition," said Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin.

Wood then ran off into the bush and remains at large since Sunday.

Wood is 6'2" and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He is bald and has green eyes.

The suspect was last seeing wearing a  baseball cap with a camo bandana around it, black sunglasses, a vest, a green shirt, and shorts.

Anyone with any information about the incident or Wood's whereabouts is asked to contact the Wise County Sheriff's Office at 940-627-5971.
