DEL RIO, TX – Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted the Border Security Summit Thursday in Del Rio to talk directly to the people of Texas, specifically residents of border towns like Del Rio, about his plan of action to combat the illegal alien invasion happening in Texas right now.
Abbott brought with him DPS Colonel Steven McCraw, Major General Tracy Norris from the Texas National Guard, and Chief Nim Kidd from the Texas Division of Emergency Management to shed light on boarder related issues and show solidarity with each other and the people of Texas in tackling this crisis.
Abbott stated that moving forward illegals encountered by DPS and local law enforcement will be arrested, jailed, and prosecuted for trespassing into the United States, as opposed to the standard procedure of deportation, Abbott hopes will prove an effective deterrent to entry.
Abbott stated he will sign the state budget that allocates more than one billion dollars to increase border security in the coming days.
Perhaps most importantly, Abbott declared he intends to expand the border wall despite the lack of Federal support. He will be releasing more information related to this major development next week.
Abbott also announced he is instituting a Task Force on Border and Homeland Security which will meet every two weeks to discuss border development and implement solutions. This task force will consist of the Governor, the Attorney General, DPS, Department of Emergency Management, Texas Military Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
Abbott announced he has been working with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey to invoke the Emergency Management Assistance Compact which calls for assistance in terms of law enforcement officials and related resources from adjacent states to fight the border crisis.
Additionally the Governor called for all landowners with property damaged by illegal aliens to report their damages to his office so that he can fight the Federal government for reimbursement on their behalf.
