SAN ANGELO, TX — It has now been over a week since Democrats "recklessly" forced a government shutdown, and Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) has continued speaking out about it, urging Democrats to do the right thing and vote to reopen the government.
Throughout multiple media interviews, Rep. Pfluger called out Democrats for refusing to come to the table and make the responsible choice to end this shutdown, all to appease their radical base. He also warned that if the government is not reopened by October 13th, our "brave servicemembers who defend our nation every day" will face a lapse in payment.
"That is unacceptable," information from Pfluger's office states. "Once again, Democrats are putting their own woke political interests ahead of the American people."
REMINDER: Every single one of Rep. Pfluger's offices across the district and in Washington, D.C. will remain open and working for his constituents throughout the entirety of this "Democrat shutdown." In addition, to ensure every individual in Texas-11 has the information they need, Rep. Pfluger also launched a new FAQ page on his website to explain how this Democrat shutdown may affect you and your family. You can view the page HERE.
Rep. Pfluger on the Democrats' reckless government shutdown:
House Republicans, weeks ago, passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) to pay our military, to make sure that our U.S. Border Patrol and other federal agencies were funded to receive a paycheck. Senate Democrats have voted six times to defund those agencies. It's a clean CR. It's the exact same CR that President Biden signed into law.
So it really is petty, and again, it just shows you that their minds are in full meltdown mode compared to Republicans, who want to go back and get things done. I mean, they're standing in the way of the continued progress, and one has to think and wonder, is that their goal? They just want to stop Donald Trump's progress. They want to stop the Republican Party from the advances that we've made to get our country back on track and have a prosperous economy and a more secure country.
Rep. Pfluger on the need to pay our troops:
Well, you wonder what that tipping point is going to be for them to have a reality check, to do the right thing, and put the people, the American public, over their petty politics. But I really don't have a lot of faith that they're going to do the right thing. There are national security issues that are out there.
When you think about the military, and I talked to some commanders yesterday who are in charge of three, four, or five thousand troops and airmen, their worry right now is not the national security issues that they should be focused on. It's whether or not they can make sure that their young enlisted troops actually have the resources they need to make it through the month. They're completely focused on that, instead of the issues that they should be focused on, which is protecting the United States and securing our borders and making sure that the threats that we face around the world can be deterred and defeated.
Rep. Pfluger on how he will keep his constituents informed during the shutdown:
As we always do, I've done town halls. We've also been meeting with many groups of community leaders over the past week. We send out a newsletter each week called the Pfluger Fly-By, and you can go to pfluger.house.gov to subscribe. In fact, we were just selected as the top office in Congress of all 435 representatives for communication, and so we're going to continue to do that.
We rely heavily on hearing from constituents, whether it's at a town hall or on phone calls. We also have six offices: Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Brownwood, Killeen, and Llano. Those offices are open. We are ready to help. It's a privilege to be able to help so many people and to have those conversations about what you need and how we can advocate for you and for our constituency.
