SAN ANGELO, TX — Skid marks indicate that the driver of a cruiser bike was westbound on W. Beauregard at around 11 p.m. Friday night when he failed to completely negotiate the 30-degree jog to the left where Sherwood Way splits with Beauregard.
The motorcycle slammed into the right side curb, sending it into an uncontrolled spin. Over the radio, police were told the motorcycle flipped at least two times. By the time we arrived, six or seven police had responded to the crash scene.
In the middle of W. Beauregard right in front of Caliber Collision, 1909 W. Beauregard Ave., the driver of the bike laid it down. The bike appeared to have sustained minor damage.
The male motorcyclist had a female passenger and neither appeared hurt. The initial radio call was a bit exaggerated, as both appeared uninjured and the ambulance soon left the scene empty.
Police said the motorcyclist admitted to having a few drinks and had the smell of alcohol on his breath. That prompted the police to conduct a field sobriety test. Home Motors picked up the bike and took it to the wrecking yard.
The bike was a late model cruiser like a Honda Goldwing. We could not get close enough for an exact identification of the bike.
The motorcyclist was arrested for DWI and taken to the Tom Green County Detention Center.
