Texas Flag to Fly at Half Mast for Fallen Deputies

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – On Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott approved a request by Concho County Judge David Dillard to fly the Texas flag at half-mast in honor of Deputy Sheriff Stephen Jones and Deputy Sheriff Samuel Leonard.

"The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to the families of Deputy Jones and Deputy Leonard during their time of grief," said Abbott in the statement. "I urge all Texans to remember and honor their public service to the State of Texas as dedicated law enforcement professionals."

The Texas flag will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of the last funeral service.

Individuals, businesses, municipalities, and other political subdivisions and entities in the surrounding area and region may fly flags at half-staff for the same period as a sign of honor and respect. 

Deputy Leonard's funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, May 22nd, a Brisket Meal & Raffle Fundraiser will be held at the Eden Fire Station to benefit the fallen deputies and the injured city worker, Ronnie Winans.

Plates will include a brisket meal with a drink and dessert with a donation.

Patrons can also pre-order half or whole briskets by May 18th.

Tickets for the raffle will be $5 each of five for $20. Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the day on May 22nd.
