SAN ANTONIO, TX – The San Antonio Police Department has identified the six-year-old girl who was tragically killed in a car club meet-up on Sunday.
According to SAPD, six-year-old Saryah Perez was sitting in her car seat in the passenger seat when a male suspect fired multiple shots while in a vehicle.
Saryah was shot in the chest and would ultimately succumb to her injuries at a local hospital. According to police, a woman in the vehicle was only grazed by a bullet.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Perez family as they face this tragedy.
On Monday afternoon, authorities confirmed 23-year-old Andrew Rey Elizondo was arrested in connection to the shooting.
According to law enforcement Elizondo was involved in an argument with someone at the car club meetup before discharging his gun.
"We’ve been through this before where there have been young children killed as a result of a reckless act by an individual, in this case, Mr. Elizondo, the accused, and I don’t have and I don’t know that any of us have, I don’t have words that adequately describe the atrocity that was committed here by Mr. Elizondo," said SAPD Police Chief William McManus. "Another young life lost, another family grief-stricken by that loss and we’ll see this case through the DA’s office and eventually the courts."
Elizondo was arrested in his home and charged with capital murder.
