BRECKENRIDGE, TX – A Breckenridge man died after he was the victim of a vicious bee attack on Monday afternoon.
According to the Breckenridge Fire Department, two victims were injured by the aggressive bees. One victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while the second victim went into cardiac arrest after being severely stung.
When officers arrived at the home located off Water District Road 214, they found aggressive bees.
According to BFD, medics and firefighters entered the home and went into the swarm of bees to reach the victims.
"One of the firefighters in the house removed their protective gear and dressed the female occupant with that gear and the other firefighter led her outside to the Fire Chief’s truck and she was removed from scene to Sheriff’s Deputy and from there to a friends house," said the department in a statement. "AMR did everything they could to make this a positive outcome but multiple issues turned this into a tragedy with one person not surviving the attack. Second patient that had been removed from the scene was transported to the hospital for treatment."
After the victims were removed from the scene, firefighters advised neighbors to refrain from making loud noises as they worked to calm down the bees.
A local beekeeper was contacted and he was able to locate the hive. With the help of BFD firefighters, the hive was removed using hand tools and foam.
"Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers during this traumatic and sad day," said Calvin Chaney of BFD. "First responders were faced with the daunting task of patient care and treatment during the attack and remained professional through the event. Prayers again for this family.
