AUSTIN, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.74 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
That price is five cents less when compared to this day last week and is 27 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Corpus Christi and El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.86 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.60 per gallon.
San Angelo drivers are paying an average of $2.84 per gallon for regular unleaded. That price is 12 cents higher than last week’s $2.72 average but still 17 cents lower than the $3.01 drivers were paying at this time last year.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.14, which is two cents less when compared to this day last week and 26 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
Texas drivers continue to benefit from lower gas prices this summer, with the statewide average for regular unleaded holding at its lowest level for late August since 2021, according to AAA Texas.
The stability at the pump is bringing welcome relief for motorists, and if crude oil prices remain subdued — and absent any major disruptions such as tropical storms along the Gulf Coast — prices could stay lower as the summer driving season winds down, information stated.
“Texans are enjoying some of the most affordable late-summer gas prices we’ve seen in several years,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “While the oil market is always unpredictable, the combination of steady supply and lower crude oil costs has helped keep prices down as summer comes to a close. This is welcome news for drivers who are planning late-season road trips or looking to save at the pump on their daily commutes.”
