WATCH: Shannon Celebrates 5,000 Successful Robotic Surgeries

SAN ANGELO, TX – Shannon Medical Center is celebrating a milestone of completing 5,000 procedures with the da Vinci Xi Surgical System.

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. Robotic surgery allows surgeons to have 3D vision along with better digitalization, magnified vision and wrist-articulated instruments. 

Dr. Benton Brown says that it not only saves patients by minimizing risks but also saves space inside the hospital. 

"One thing we learned during the pandemic is how valuable each bed can be inside of a hospital," said Brown. "With this machine we are able to get patients out of the hospital quicker thanks to the small incision."

Currently, Shannon’s surgeons are utilizing the Da Vinci for many different types of procedures including gallbladder removal, hernia repair, colectomy, urological, GERD treatment and gynecological surgeries.
