SAN ANGELO, TX – Test results revealed Saturday that there were a number of chemicals found in San Angelo water.
According to the City of San Angelo's Public Information Office, on Feb. 13, test results came back for the water in San Angelo that had allegedly been tainted with multiple chemicals.
As previously reported, on Feb. 8, Officials with the City of San Angelo shut down the water in San Angelo after they discovered a strange odor coming from citizen's tap water. For the original story see: City Says San Angeloans Should Not Bathe for at Least 24 Hours
After numerous tests citizens throughout San Angelo were able to use the water again except for those in the Paul Ann area. Preliminary tests revealed that at least three chemicals were in the water: Benzene, Acetone, and Naphthalene.
Now tests results have come back that states that not only those three chemicals were found. Other chemicals include Tetrahydrofuran, Toluene, Acrylonitrile, Styrene, 2-Butanone, 1,2- Dichloroethane, 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene, and Total Trihalomethanes (Chloroform, Bromodichloromethane,
Dibromochloromethane, Bromoform) - THMs.
Testing will continue as the majority of these chemicals were found near the industrial park. The city is currently flushing pipes in the area which has caused a significant drop in the chemical numbers. In fact on Feb. 11 results showed that Benzene was one of the only major chemicals left in the water.
It is still unknown the source of the issue but city officials ensured the public Friday during a press conference that they are getting close to finding an answer. See: LIVE: City Gives Update on the San Angelo Water Crisis
