Woman Abandons Toddler To Go Drinking

ABILENE, TX – A 28-year-old woman is out of the running for Mother of the Year after police discovered she abandoned her child to go drinking.

According to the Abilene Police Department, shortly after 8:00 p.m., a neighbor saw a 4-year-old boy walking around the Landing Apartments complex. The toddler was screaming for his mother.

He was found near the swimming pool. Also, the complex is on a major highway.

Police arrived at the scene and sometime later Ariel Ivory McBratney returned home.

She initially told police she had hired a babysitter to watch her son, but she was unable to provide proof.

Police observed the woman smelled like alcohol and  McBratney later admitted she had left her sone home alone.

Child Protective Services took custody of the child and recommended McBratney be held for 72 hours or have a high bond.
