Saturday night, at 11:55 p.m., San Angelo police responded to an accident at 7th Street and North Bryant Blvd. Upon arrival, Officers located a white Ram pickup and a red Honda Civic passenger car still in the intersection. Officers believed one of the drivers was severely injured and called for additional help from the SAPD Traffic Section. Traffic Officer Brian Bylsma was assigned to lead the investigation.
Officers and EMTs were unable to get to the driver of the Civic and additional Fire Department personnel were called to the scene to assist with recovery. Jaws of Life were required to extract the driver of the Civic. The driver of the Civic, 20-year-old Aaron James Allen of San Angelo, succumbed to fatal injuries he sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead by Judge E. Howard at the scene. The occupants of the pickup, a female, 31-year-old Jaime Tankersley and 25-year-old male passenger, Wesley Tankersley, both of San Angelo, were not injured.
Preliminary investigation shows the Civic was traveling south on Bryant Blvd. The Ram pickup was turning left from Bryant to the Houston Harte frontage road. The driver of the pickup failed to yield the right-of-way turning left and collided with the Civic in the intersection. Officers on scene believed alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. After further investigation, Jaime Tankersley was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle. She was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident. The incident is still under investigation.
