Snomageddon New Year's Eve?

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Concho Valley will see rain and possibly snow by New Year's Eve according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service Office in San Angelo.  

A significant winter storm will bring the chance of ice and snow this week creating hazardous driving conditions. 

A potent upper level storm system will move across the area this week. Widespread showers and storms on Wednesday will begin to switch over to a wintry mix Wednesday Night and perhaps into snow on Thursday.

The main threat this week will be the chance for ice and snow.  The storm system has slowed down a little and this has pushed the timing for any wintry precipitation into Wednesday Night and  Thursday. Right now, it looks like Wednesday Night will see a mixture of rain, sleet, freezing rain, and perhaps some snow spread west to east into the area. Temperatures will also be dropping and some accumulation is possible by sunrise Thursday morning. The most likely time frame for any snow accumulation has shifted into Thursday, New Years Eve.

Forecasters say the upper level storm system is developing so predicting rain and snowfall totals at this time is difficult.  The timing of the storm is also not clear but it looks like temperatures and precipitation will most likely occur on Thursday, New Year's Eve and Thursday night.  

This is a serious weather situation and anyone traveling Wednesday through Friday should keep up to date on the changing weather and roadway conditions.
