SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo is set to award a $5.93 million contract to Reece Albert for the reconstruction of Southwest Blvd. on San Angelo’s southwest side. The project, divided into two phases will improve the roadway from Twin Mountain Drive to Rockbrook, and then commence improving the roadway from Rockbrook to Sherwood Way, and then from there to the Houston Harte Expressway.
Phase A will completely reconstruct the Southwest and Southland intersection with concrete pavement as well as completely reconstruct the railroad crossing. The remaining roadway in both phases will be mill and overlay.
Phase B will continue the mill and overlay of Southwest from Rockbrook to Sherwood Way, and then full reconstruction of the roadway from Sherwood Way to the Houston Harte frontage road. The right turn lane onto the frontage road at the expressway will also be widened as will pavement distress and curb settlement be fixed along the short roadway from Sherwood Way to the Houston Harte.
Other improvements as part of Phase B will include improving the drainage at the low water crossing of the Red Arroyo underneath Southwest near the McDonalds. This has been the scene of many cars washed off the roadway during flash flooding over the years. The proposal also includes funding to newly build or repair sidewalks from Twin Mountain Dr. to Walnut Hill and Dominion Ridge.
Reece Albert was the only contractor that bid on this project. The money for this project is already budgeted in the multi-year program initiated in 2015 to fix all of San Angelo’s roads over time. Part of that plan previously was the road reconstruction project of Bell St. on the east side of town that has been long underway.
The project is on the agenda for the Dec. 15 meeting of the San Angelo City Council for approval.
