COVID-19: How Does Tom Green County Compare to the Rest of the State?

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The coronavirus is continuing to surge throughout Texas but how does Tom Green County compare to the rest of the state?

The first place to compare would be the COVID-19 hot spot of Texas. In El Paso there have been 63,161 cases of coronavirus reported to the Department of State Health Services.

Although the city doesn't have the most positive cases; El Paso county reported 1,919 cases and five deaths on Sunday. San Angelo reported 112 cases and one death. El Paso county is roughly seven times the size of Tom Green County. 

Another city in Texas that is growing in coronavirus numbers is Lubbock. The Hub City reported 335 new positive cases on Sunday. New positive cases are not Lubbock's only problem. 

Lubbock has been overrun with COVID-19 patients that need to be hospitalized. With a hospitalization rate of nearly 20 percent, Lubbock's health officials have begun restricting businesses. The most similar county to Tom Green County in size is Taylor County. The Taylor County Health District confirmed Sunday they had 1,844 active cases.
