The San Angelo Fire Department extinguished a house fire early Sunday morning at the 2300 block of Jomar at 1:55 a.m. Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said that the fire was intentionally set.
The corner of the building on the northwest side, encompassing the garage, was on fire with firefighters arrived. It is a three-car garage. Coleman said that the home was not occupied at the time of the fire. The occupants had recently moved out.
It took 10-15 minutes to extinguish the fire
“We just finished with a fire at the 1800 block of North Street. These two could be related,” Coleman said. Coleman said that on North Street, another fire was intentionally set; firefighters responded at 1:21 a.m. Coleman said that there, a couch and mattress being thrown away, and sitting at the curbside, were set on fire. “A little less than a mile away, and two fires back-to-back,” Coleman said.
At the fire scene on Jomar, a shirtless man appeared, raising suspicions. The shirtless man was arrested, accused of public intoxication. Coleman did not believe the shirtless man was involved in setting the fires.
The investigation is just starting, Coleman said.
