SAN ANGELO, TX – In this week's 4A matchup between the Lake View Chiefs and the Andrews Mustangs, the Mustangs routed the Chiefs in a hard fought 57-27 road win.
To start it off, Andrews differed possession until the second half giving the Chiefs first possession. After a quick four-and-out drive by Lake View, Andrews went on to score 28 unanswered points to finish off the first quarter.
After a touchdown by Andrews WR Anthony Trevino a minute and twenty-three seconds into the second quarter, the Chiefs finally showed some teeth after coming up with a big fumble recovery. However, the Mustangs quickly held off the Chiefs and forced them to punt after another failed conversion.
Towards the end the half, the Mustangs took a 40-point lead, 54-14, going into the half.
To begin the second half of play, the Mustangs took possession following a fair catch call around the 45-yard line. Two plays into the drive, Lake View's Jacob Chappa picked off Andrews QB E.J Lopez's pass at the goal line and made a short run for a gain of about two.
After a failed conversion Lake View suffered an Andrews safety after the ball was snapped over QB Albert Rodriguez head, adding three to Andrews lead, making the score 56 - 14 with 6:42 left in the 3rd quarter. On the Chief's next possession WR #2 Austin Bandy caught a pass from Albert Rodriguez and ran 80 yards to the house for the touchdown cutting Andrews lead on Lake View.
Andrews led 54 - 20 to start the fourth quarter.
For their first possession of the fourth quarter, the Mustangs gave up the ball on a turnover on downs after failing a 4th down conversion at Lake View's 4-yard line. The Chiefs took possession where #21 Ricky Ramirez moved the chains on a nice gain of 20. The following play, Ramirez proved shifty after avoiding several tackles on a 21-yard touchdown run.
The Mustangs held off the Chiefs and finished the game with a 56 - 27 win on the road.
