ODESS, TX – The Odessa High School Bronchos football team has several players currently in quarantine following last week’s news that a player had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Odessa High School head football coach Danny Servance, approximately 35 to 40 players are at home isolating after contact tracing determined they were possibly exposed to the virus.
Servance noted that the district did not consider canceling practice this week, because those possibly exposed have been removed, and are currently being monitored.
“After the tracking process, you pretty much know what kids have come in contact with,” said Servance. “So that’s why the groups that were pulled were the ones that were identified. We’ll get those guys through the protocol and tested, and then we’ll go back to normal. No worries about the groups that we have here now though”
Servance added that because of the virus’s incubation period, players will have to wait until Wednesday to be tested.
Odessa High does not have a game this week, and their next game is scheduled for Thursday October 8 against Lubbock Coronado.
The Broncho's season opener last Friday against Lubbock Monterey was canceled just hours before kickoff, after the Bronchos player was confirmed to have tested positive with the virus.
Odessa High is also among the Texas U.I.L Class 6A District 2 along with San Angelo Central, Abilene High, Midland High, Midland Lee, Odessa Permian, and Wolfforth Frenship.
