SAN ANGELO, TX -- What looked like a canceled homecoming game on Friday, September 11 for the Lake View Chiefs against the Sweetwater Mustangs is officially back on.
In a statement via Facebook San Angelo ISD announced today that Lake View's week 3 showdown vs Sweetwater that was canceled on Friday will be played next Friday night as originally scheduled at San Angelo Stadium.
The homecoming game allows the Chiefs to continue the program's 2-0 start. Lake View assembled a 44-41 road comeback win on Friday night against Pecos.
As for Sweetwater, the week 3 showdown against Lake View will be the program's first game since the week 1 season-opening loss to Stephenville. The Mustangs were originally slated to face Jim Ned last night at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater until Jim Ned announced earlier in the week that members of the football team tested positive for COVID-19.
Sweetwater was able to schedule a game with Brownsboro in Aledo on Friday night but announced on Friday morning it's contest against the East Texas team would also be canceled. The school district did not provide a reason for the cancellation.
Friday will be the Chiefs first game against the Mustangs since 2017 in which Sweetwater ran away with a dominating 52-21 win.
