Over 11,000 Acres Burned in West Texas Wildfire

IRAAN, TX – The Smith Canyon wildfire continues to burn throughout Pecos County.

As first reported, on September 1, firefighters from across West Texas including the Texas A&M Forest Service were dispatched to Pecos County for the report of a wildfire. After the first day the fire burned 4,000 acres was 0% contained. For more read: Wildire Burning Out of Control Near Iraan

Airtankers were called in to help fight the fire and after the first day it reached 11,000 acres. 

Now according to the TAMFS, on September 4, the Smith Canyon Fire in Pecos County is 11,348 acres and 60% contained. Nine hours prior the forest service reported that the fire burned 11,348 acres but was only 25% contained.
