Border Patrol Seizes More Than 900 Pounds of Meth

PHARR, TX — Agents with the Customs and Border Patrol seized a load of methamphetamine at the Pharr International Bridge with a street value of more than $19 million.

According to CBP, on August 7th a 29-year-old Mexican citizen arrived at the international bridge cargo facility. The driver, a native of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, was carrying a commercial shipment of produce.

A secondary inspection of the tractor-trailer allowed CBP officers to discover 521 packages of methamphetamine. The packages weighed 992 pounds (450 kg) and were concealed within the floor of the trailer.

The value of the cargo was estimated to be $19,841,000.

The narcotics and tractor-trailer were seized by CBP Office of Field Operations officers and the driver was arrested. Homeland Security Investigations agents will continue with the investigation.
