Police: Both Parents Planned Death of 4 Kids

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Two months after San Antonio Police Officers found a family of six dead inside their garage, authorities have released new details.

According to My San Antonio, in early June, 38-year-old Jared Esquibel, his wife, Sheryll, and kids were found inside their SUV. The family appeared to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning. 

When authorities located the bodies it was unclear if both parents had an active hand in the deaths of their children. Police initially believed Esquibel had orchestrated the death of his family alone.

Details have been limited regarding the incident but as Friday the deaths of Esquibel and his wife have been ruled a suicide. Police now believe the couple planned the deaths together.

According to San Antonio Police Lt. Jesse Salame, even though the motive is not clear, “a combination and life stress that was exacerbated by some mental health issues, and the stress that is not uncommon with having children with special needs as well,” were factors in the deaths.

The deaths of four-year-old Esteban Lorenzo Harless, three-year-old Penelope Arcadia Harless, one-year-old Avielle Magdalena Harless, and 11-month-old Apollo Harless have been ruled a homicide.

The cause of death has not been released and a toxicology report is pending.

Esquibel worked as a 35Q cryptologic cyberspace intelligence collector/analyst, according to information released from the military.
