Christoval Firecracker 5K Fun Run, Bike Ride, and Kayak Ride Still on for July 4

CHRISTOVAL, TX — Jimmy Barton, spokesman for the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department, said their VFD’s annual fundraiser, the Firecracker 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run and Walk, Bike, and Kayak Ride, are on for Saturday, July 4. The event is an essential fundraiser for the Christoval VFD.

He said his team has taken precautions to insure social distancing. Of note, the 5k and 1 mile run/walks will have a 10-minute starting window allowing runners and walkers to run with more distance between them. The special bibs to be used this year will track each participant’s start and end times for determining the winners.

Winners will be awarded medals fo age groups in male and female categories. The opening window for starting the run is from 9 a.m. until 9:10 a.m.

Barbecue plates will be packaged to go. However, there will be a tent area for those who desire to eat their meal at the event. Strict sterilization procedures will be in place, Barton said. The barbecue will be served an hour earlier than originally scheduled, starting at 10 a.m.

A 15-mile bicycle race begins at 8:30 a.m. The South Concho River flows through Christoval and a kayak ride starts at 12:30 p.m. Kayakers will paddle one mile up and down the stream from the Christoval City Park. Kayaks can be put into the river at the low water next to the downtown city park where the other races begin and end.
