AUSTIN, TX – As the state of Texas experiences a significant surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Governor Abbot announced Wednesday the state will pause any further phases to open Texas.
According to a press release, businesses that have reopened under previous phases can continue to operate at the designated occupancy levels and under the minimum standard health protocols provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
According to the governor’s Open Texas plan, the last phase that was detailed was Phase 3. It is unknown at this time what further phases would have included for businesses and organizations.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Texas had 125,921 cases reported, with an estimated 50,774 considered active. More than 4,000 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalized.
“As we experience an increase in both positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, we are focused on strategies that slow the spread of this virus while also allowing Texans to continue earning a paycheck to support their families,” said Governor Abbott. “The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses."
"This temporary pause will help our state corral the spread until we can safely enter the next phase of opening our state for business," said Abbott. "I ask all Texans to do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, washing their hands regularly, and socially distancing from others. The more that we all follow these guidelines, the safer our state will be, and the more we can open up Texas for business.”

... in certain age groups ( young and older) will understand that this is a seriously contagious virus ... and start following the restrictions we have during this phase of reopening we are currently in, the spread of the virus will lessen. Older people that have the financial resources to travel... need to learn to be content staying home. Younger people that get bored because of the limitations of gatherings at bars and parties... need to find productive ways of occupying there time staying home for as long as it takes to lessen the spread of the virus! Among these things is to continue to wash there hands with soap if they feel the need to venture out in public, use hand sanitizer if and when soap and water are not available. If either of these groups get or feel sick or think they just have a cold ... especially if they have a fever... don't go to work until you've been tested for the virus. If these people don't have anyone to go to the grocery store for food... have your groceries delivered... all stores and restaurants now are doing "no contact deliveries" and if you are sick but feel that you just can't stand not going out in public... wear a mask ... to protect others from getting whatever sickness you may have. Bottom line is ... it's simple common sense thinking... and does not require a college education to do these things. As Judge Steve Floyd said... "We will be finished with this virus when it has run it's complete cycle!" ... and I agree... and we ALL need to do our part to control the spread of this virus!
