Another Major Part of Bell Street Construction is Complete

SAN ANGELO, TX – The reconstruction of Bell street continues as crews are headed towards Rio Concho Drive.

Currently the City of San Angelo is working on a large reconstruction project that rebuilt Martin Luther King Drive, widened Southland Blvd., and repaved College Hills Blvd. south of Loop 306. The main street that was going to be rebuilt in the project was Bell St.

Crews with Reese Albert started their work on June 14, 2018.  Crews started by replacing and relocating water and sewer lines from the Houston Harte Expressway north to Old Ballinger Highway. They completed the water and sewer line in February of 2019 and between then and now have completely reconstructed the road from the Old Ballinger Highway to Pulliam.

Engineers for the road decided to complete rebuild and use concrete instead of asphalt. This is due to the massive amounts of traffic, large trucks, equipment, and school buses that use Bell st. The entire road including the new water and sewer lines cost $22.2 million of the $80 million project.

In January officials with the City of San Angelo reported that the project was 50% complete. Here is the story: BELL STREET UPDATE: The Project is Half Way Done

On June 19, COSA announced that the roadway from Pulliam to Rio Concho is about 35% complete.

This project is set to be complete late 2021. COSA then plans to return to College Hills to rebuild from Loop 306 to W. Avenue N.
