Robert Lee VFD Asking for Donations to Fix Broken Equipment

ROBERT LEE, TX – The Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Department is currently asking for donations to help them fix broken equipment.

As previously reported, on June 13, a number of volunteer fire departments across the Concho Valley were dispatched to grass fire in Coke county off of W. SH 158. After the first day the Forest Service reported 1,000 at only 5% contained.  The following day, June 14, the Robert Lee VFD reported over 2,000 acres burned.

Monday the fire grew up to 3,000 acres and began to cause serious damage. Here is the story: UPDATE: Coke County Wildfire Triples in Size.

Now the McDaniel Wildfire is nearly out after burning 4,216 acres. Firefighters battled this fire non-stop for days. After fighting the wildfire all day, Crews with the Robert Lee VFD were called back into town to fight a house fire. The home was classified as a complete loss.

During the fires some of the Robert Lee VFD's trucks and equipment were extremely damaged and they're asking for help.

The following is a statement from the Robert Lee VFD:

"Here is our current situation to be bluntly honest. Putting our pride aside we are asking for help. We need donations. These fires have put a major toll on our equipment. We are good on drinks, snacks and etc. What we need now are tires for our trucks. Nozzles need to be replaced as they are worn out. We’re looking at large repair bills to have some of our trucks fixed. We currently have issues with possibly the rear end on our tanker and the supply pipe to our pump on a brush truck. We have 3 other trucks that are out of service due to mechanical issues. We have applied for grants for new trucks and did receive a new to us truck which we will be happy to introduce once it’s completed but are still needing more trucks to replace our trucks that are out of service. Please if you have it in your hearts please donate. We need your help now more than ever. We will be looking at doing fundraisers in the near future to help with these costs so be on the lookout. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

Donations can be sent to the Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Dept, P.O. Box 331, Robert Lee, Tx 76945.
