Police: Deputy & Wife Arrested During Shots Fired Call

SAN ANTONIO, TX — According to the San Antonio Police Department a Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested after he allegedly fired a pistol into the air at least ten times outside his home.

According to KSAT, around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday SAPD officers responded to a call for a disturbance at Lopez’s home, and while in route they received a call for shots fired. 

When officers arrived, they found approximately ten spent police casings in the front yard which indicated the bullets had struck the ground. According to officers Deputy Lopez was “obviously intoxicated” and “became more violent and threw himself on the ground.”

During the investigation, officers located an empty pistol holster nearby.

Lopez then smacked the body cameras off one of the officers and refused to let officers close the door on the patrol car. According to the report, Lopez stuck his “feet out” and banged “his head against the windows.”

Lopez’s wife Valerie then became combative and “pulled on one of the officers" while they were handcuffing her husband and “would not listen to officers’ instructions to go inside as they were struggling to take her husband into custody.”

Deputy Lopez faces charges of resisting arrest and discharging a firearm in a heavily populated area. His wife was also arrested and was charged with interfering with a public servant.
