WACO, TX — The Waco Police Department has confirmed they have located the body of a small child near Parklake Baptist Church in Waco. Authorities believe the body belongs to 2-year-old Frankie Gonzales who was reported missing yesterday afternoon.
According to KTXS, Frankie was last seen on Monday afternoon near the restrooms by the splash pad in the Pecan Bottoms area of Cameron Park. Authorities closed a section of the park on Monday afternoon to begin the search around 2:00 p.m. Investigators remained at the park interviewing Frankie’s relatives well into the night.
According to authorities, Frankie was last seen wearing a gray Mickey Mouse shirt, gray pants with Mickey Mouse on them, and black and white Nike shoes. During the search, a shirt matching the given description was found near Martin Luther King and Lake Shore, but investigators do not believe that shirt belonged to Frankie.
A pair of black Nike shoes located at 18th Street and Herring are also being examined to determine if they belonged to the missing boy.
The search efforts at Cameron Park have been suspended, but the closed-off area will remain closed today, so the scene is not “contaminated” by visitors.
The search party for Frankie included a McLennan County Sheriff's Office helicopter, SWAT team members, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice bloodhound team from Gatesville and a Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife game warden with a tracking dog all joined in. Cameron Park Zoo employees also assisted.
As of right now, authorities have no suspects and no information has been released regarding the cause of death.
