NEW BRAUNFELS, TX -- The Comal River has been temporarily closed after heavy rains caused an increase in the flow of water on the river.
According to KABB, the excess flow has forced water over the Tube Chute Dam.
The New Braunfels Police stated the Comal River reached over 500 cfs but had come down to 429 cfs as of 8 a.m. Monday.
"More rainfall, strong flows, and continued poor water clarity have prompted city officials to keep the Comal River in New Braunfels closed for the remainder of the day today (05-25-20), with a reevaluation of river conditions on Tuesday morning. There is currently no change in status to recreation on the Guadalupe River inside the city limits of New Braunfels," said the New Braunfels Police Department in a Facebook update.
"It should be noted that forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting more rain tonight and over the next several days. Those factors will also play a role in future decisions made by city officials.
The New Braunfels Police Department would like to remind area drivers to use caution on area roads. Slow down, leave plenty of room between you and the person in front of you, and always remember: TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN."
