City council members held their meeting on Zoom which is a software program which allows for council members to attend a video conference from home.
County Commissioners held their regular weekly meeting in person in the court meeting room but were practicing social distancing.
County Judge Steve Floyd at the beginning of the meeting said they had very few people in the room while other attendees were properly spaced outside the meeting room in the hallways.
The city council agenda contained no items specifically about the Coronavirus crisis but Mayor Brenda Gunter did discuss actions the city had taken to hold virtual meetings.
County Commissioners approved an application for a Bureau of Justice Assistance Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Grant. The Department of Justice Bureau of Justice grant is for $58,008 and can be used for overtime pay, personal protective equipment, gloves, masks, medical needs for jail inmates and other products and services deemed necessary for response to the Coronavirus. The funds can be used for expenses going back to Jan. 20, 2020.
Judge Floyd said the County has purchased some items but not anywhere near $58,000 yet.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered schools to remain closed until May 4, 2020 and social distancing through April 30, 2020. The Governor has also strongly suggested residents wear masks while out in public.
