SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has placed an entire class of recently graduated class deputies on administrative leave after one deputy tested positive for coronavirus. The deputy is the fourth employee to test positive in the sheriff’s office.
According to San Antonio Express-News, the deputy who tested positive graduated from the academy last week and was expected to begin working on Saturday.
The deputy began experiencing symptoms before he started his shift and was placed on administrative duty. The deputy didn’t come into contact with anyone at the detention center where he would be working, but he did interact with several classmates before graduation.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office placed the entire class on administrative leave out of an “abundance of caution.”
BCSO stated their offices have several new processes in place to mitigate the spread of the virus in the jail including:
- daily sanitizing
- constant sterilizing with disinfectant chemicals
- wearing personal protective equipment at all times
- temperature checks for all deputies at the beginning and end of their shift
The three employees who tested positive are two deputies and a civilian employee who works in video visitation.
