San Angelo Health Foundation Donates Nearly Half-a-Million Dollars to Local Organizations

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Health Foundation has announced the receipts of nearly half of million dollars in grants. The grants were awarded to seven organizations that “encompass public service, community improvement, basic needs, health care, and philanthropy.”

Every quarter the San Angelo Health Foundation donates money to a variety of organizations that are dedicated to helping improve the lives of the people in the area.

Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of the Concho Valley

The council was awarded $25,000 that will be used to purchase new furniture, equipment, and landscaping for the new Journey Recovery Center. The center hosues 30 male treatment beds and 18 bed for female patients. They will be providing detox services in the future.

 Catholic Outreach Services 

The organization will be using a $100,000 grant to renovate its facility. This will allow them to provide a daily sack lunch, immigration services, access to a licensed counselor, food pantry and offices for their prison ministry. Services are available to all residents in need of assistance. 

Concho Valley Council of Governments

The council will become the AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) Coordinator for the Concho Valley. With $205,939 grants, the organization will have the capability to place VISTAs with community organizations that assist the poor and extremely poor. 

Seaquist House Foundation 

The foundation will be awarded $25,000 to repair the Seaquist house. The Seaquist House Foundation began in 2014 intending to restore a 19th-century landmark in Mason. Volunteers lead tours of the grand home on the first Saturday of the month. In 2019 they had over 1,000 visits and numerous community events.

Sterling County Senior Citizens Center 

The $25,000 grant will allow the center to purchase air conditioners and pay for painting and repairs to the Center. The Center is located in the renovated train depot in Sterling City. 

Tom Green County Library 

The STEAM Central Makerspace will receive $25,000 to purchase a Long Arm Quilting Machine. Space is located in the basement of the Stephens Central Library and offers classes on equipment such as the quilting machine, a 3D printer, laser cutter, and an embroidery machine. 

United Way of the Concho Valley

The United Way of the Concho Valley was awarded $57,663 to hire a Community Impact and Marketing Associate and provide technology upgrades and training opportunities.
