Lubbock Officials Confirm 2 Cases of Coronavirus There

LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock has confirmed its first two cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Both are traveler transmission cases, but not related to one another, Lubbock health officials said. The Department of Public Health is working to identify recent contacts of the patients. This step identifies potential exposure risks.

The City of Lubbock Health Department and other response agencies are prepared and have employed standard response plans designed to address and resolve public health issues. The Department will continue monitoring individuals as indicated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Department’s disease surveillance team is working diligently to ensure the public remains at a low risk of contracting COVID-19, the Lubbock Health Department said.

The City of Lubbock Health Department and its health care partners will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the Lubbock area to prepare for the possibility of more local cases.

A news conference with Lubbock's Director of Public Health Katherine Wells and Public Health Authority Dr. Ron Cook will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 17, 2020.

Lubbock is 185 miles northwest of San Angelo.

...on the city of Lubbock's part.

I didn't see anything released about where those two people were working the last two weeks or so since they likely got infected while they were traveling, so they could indeed have already spread it to others in Lubbock while they were asymptomatic.

i actually traveled to Lubbock two weeks ago and ran several errands all over town on a saturday when there was a lot of people out and about, so that knowledge would certainly be helpful.
