As your mayor, I want to assure you that the City of San Angelo is taking steps to ensure that we, as your City government, are prepared for an emergency situation such as a coronavirus outbreak.
Officials from across San Angelo met this week to discuss our preparedness for an event like this. This included healthcare, public safety, education and local public health authorities, as well as representatives from Goodfellow Air Force Base and the Department of State Health Services.
While this was all discussed this week, the City Health Department has been working since January on all of these things. We want you to know that we have an organized system in place and are taking measures both to prevent the spread of and respond to the coronavirus epidemic.
We are remaining diligent on practicing good hygiene. Desks, phones, door handles – any commonly touched surfaces are regularly disinfected. We are adding hand sanitizer dispensers for customers at the City Hall Annex and continue to encourage all City employees and citizens of San Angelo to wash your hands as often as possible. Avoid touching your face, cover your coughs or sneezes, stay home if you are sick and regularly disinfect commonly used surfaces.
Any positive case of coronavirus will be confirmed through the City Public Health Department and distributed to the public via the City Public Information office. Be sure to follow the City of San Angelo, Texas Facebook page or visit cosatx.us for all updates.
