SAN ANTONIO, TX– A remarkable season came to an unfortunate end Thursday for the Veribest Lady Falcons after falling 43-23 to No.1 Ranked Nazareth in the teams first appearance to the UIL State Championship. After Veribest freshman Cora Blackwell hit the opening basket of the game, Nazareth popped off to score the next 18 points. Leading 16-2 to end the first quarter.
The Lady Falcons were unable to produce a basket for more than 8 minutes, and would be held off 28–8 to end the first half. After a small shootout to start the third quarter the Lady Swifts would outlast the Lady Falcons in regular time. Veribest's historic season would come to an unfortunate end after falling 43-23 in Thursdays 1A Sate matchup.
"This team has done amazing things, and this is just a stepping stone for where we need to be," Veribest head coach Chris Schlicke said. "And hats off to coach (Eric) Schilling and Naz for what they've done. They've accomplished that as a really good team defensively. They did a really good job against us and made it tough for us to score, but I thought my team fought really, really hard all throughout the game. There was no quit and there was no give up, and that's a testament to what these ladies have done all year. I can't put into words to express how happy I am."
Nazareth led 16-2 after the first quarter, 28-8 at halftime and 38-15 after the third quarter.
The Lady Falcons would end their season with a record of 27-11.
