BIG SPRING, TX – A resident of a Big Spring home lost his life during a fatal fire Wednesday.
According to the Big Spring Herald, on Wednesday, February 5th the Big Spring Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a structure fire with occupants still inside the residence.
When firefighters arrived at the scene a witness reported someone was inside the home. Rescue crews attempted to rescue the occupant, but the fire spread so quickly is was impossible to carry out a successful rescue effort.
The fire crews battled the fire from both inside and outside the home. Unfortunately, the crews were unable to reach the victim in time. The victim suffered smoke inhalation and heat injuries resulting in his death.
During the rescue effort a Big Spring firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The first responder was transported to Scenic Mountain Center ER to be stabilized. He was then transferred to University Medical Center in Lubbock and is being held for observation and is expected to be released in a few days. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the fire marshal.
