OZONA, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed a fatal crash on I-10 near Ozona Saturday.
According to the Texas DPS, on February 1, at around 2:00 a.m. troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to I-10 just 12 miles east of Ozona for the report of a major motor vehicle accident.
When the troopers arrived they found a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup that had rolled off of the interstate and onto the improved shoulder.
A Crockett County Justice of the Peace was called in and Lorenzo Noriega, 64, was pronounced dead on scene.
After further investigation the troopers determined that the truck was traveling east on Interstate 10 in the inside lane. The driver of the truck, due to a distraction in the vehicle, failed to drive in a single lane veering left into the center median. The driver of the truck overcorrected back right entering a side skid across the center median into the westbound lanes.
The GMC Sierra then rolled over coming to rest on it's right side on the westbound improved shoulder facing southeast.
Troopers believe that Noriega was secured by the safety belt but suffered fatal head injuries during the rollover.
