Police Say Suspected Drunk Kid Was Racing Wrong Way Down Bryant Before Being Ejected in Rollover Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX — A driver barreled south down Bryant Blvd. in the northbound lanes at around 1 a.m. this morning. At around 25th Street, the driver lost control and drove about 100 feet off the roadway until he hit a pole and the 2000 Chevy pickup rolled another 100 feet back onto the pavement.

Police said the driver was ejected during the roll. The initial call from dispatch to police stated there was a crash victim at the scene who was unresponsive. All feared another fatality. When police arrived, they found a young man, exact age unknown, but likely in his teens, at the scene displaying signs of impairment.

Police suspect alcohol was involved.

Allaying fears of serious injury, police said when it arrived, the young man walked to the ambulance to be transported to Shannon. Likely, police will draw blood at the hospital, either voluntarily or by force with a warrant.

No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved but not much was left of the Chevy pickup.

On Dec. 15, a crash on the Houston Harte Expressway in front of Furniture Row killed two when one of the drivers in that crash was driving east in the westbound lanes. When the two vehicles collided, a fire engulfed the scene. Luckily in this morning's crash, the out-of-control offroading into a pole likely saved innocent lives.
