Police Respond to Shots Fired Call Near Reagan Elementary

San Angelo police have responded to a call of shots fired in the 1700 block of Volney St., which came in at 12:08 p.m.

Information regarding the gunfire has not yet been disseminated, however a media briefing will take place at 12:45 p.m.

Reporters on scene have been advised to keep away from Reagan Elementary School, which was reported to be on lockdown. A secretary in the office of the school stated that she was not aware of the shots fired call and that to her knowledge, the school has not been locked down.

The school is located only a block away from the site of the alleged gunfire.

Update 12:55 p.m.

Police are entering the school and moving cars around. The school, as of yet, has not communicated any further information on their status.

Update 1:03 p.m.

San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez stated in a media briefing this afternoon that after dispatch received a call about shots fired just after noon, officers saturated the area in an attempt to locate any evidence of a shooting.

"They spoke with several people around the neighborhood that said that they heard two distinctive shots," Gonzalez said. "Reagan Elementary was placed on temporary lockdown, [but] there was no indication that the shots came from the school whatsoever. It was just heard in the general area."

Gonzalez said that police were unable to locate any evidence indicating that a shooting had taken place, and no further calls have come in since approximately 12:10 p.m. No injuries have been reported and the temporary lockdown at Reagan has been lifted.

"That's it right now," Gonzalez said. "Unless we get additional calls or we end up getting a victim at the hospital, there's nothing right now."

for the kids who think school will be cancelled because of shots fired, maybe they should be informed that it'll actually just keep them locked in school that much longer. Just in case they're thinking of copycat calls. (who would call in a "shots fired" not using 911? hmmmmmmmmm)
