WATCH: Much Needed San Angelo Fire Station Number 4 Opens with Celebration

SAN ANGELO, TX – Mayor Brenda Gunter, City Manager Daniel Valenzuela, Councilman Harry Thomas, and Fire Chief Brian Dunn were proud to welcome members of the San Angelo Fire Department and the public to the grand opening of Fire Station 4 on Friday morning.

The new station was built to replace the tiny Fire Station 4 that was located on Ave L. The new station located on Edgewood Ave. provides firefighters with a new facility and allows them to better serve the community. The new station has the space to accommodate a new firetruck and four other emergency vehicles. The building also has new doors that can be opened in eight seconds compared to the 50 seconds it can take to open traditional doors.

Inside there are dormitories for the firefighters on duty, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a living room space, and an area filled with exercise equipment.

The building of the new fire station was part of a 2005 initiative to replace three fire stations that needed to be upgraded. Fire stations 5 and 7 were redone in 2011 and the new Fire Station 4 was finally completed this year. By moving Fire Station 4 to Edgewood Dr., SAFD has all of its stations geographically placed to better serve the city.
During the ceremonial “ribbon cutting” Chief Dunn thanked everyone that had made the construction of the fire station possible.

“I want to thank all the council members and all of their work in helping push this forward. The department needed a station and the citizens needed a new station."

“The building is spectacular…but what is most important is that we provided a first-class facility for our first responders and citizens of San Angelo,” said Mayor Gunter. “I am incredibly proud that today we do this ribbon cutting.”

“Congratulations and thank you, this is good for the citizens of San Angelo,” said Councilman Harry Thomas.

After prayer and words from the mayor and fire chief, a ceremonial bell was rung to officially inaugurate the fire station.

Also, in attendance was Chief Carter of the SAPD and Lt. Col. McCourt, the 312th Training Squadron Commander at Goodfellow Airforce Base.
