Snyder ISD's Trustees Removed By TEA

SNYDER, TX – The Texas Education Agency has informed Snyder ISD that their elected school board members will be replaced with an appointed board.

Snyder ISD was given a “C” by the TEA for the past school your and Snyder Junior High School was given an “F” in September. Snyder High School had received an “F” rating for 5 consecutive years.

According to KTXS, Dr. Eddie Bland, Snyder’s ISD Superintendent, said that the campuses had improved since he came to the district; but they are not where they need to be. Snyder was one of three school districts that were informed by the TEA that they would be taking over their school board. The largest school district in Texas, Houston ISD, and Shepard ISD in East Texas were part of the trio.

TEA Commissioner Mike Morath will be selecting the conservators that will work with each district and the new boards will be made up of community members.

A statement on the Snyder ISD website stated the following: “Dr. Bland, along with Board of Trustees President, Ralph Ramon, and Board of Trustees Vice President, Brad Hinton will be in Austin tomorrow, November 7th, to meet with Commissioner Morath."

I've asked this before and received no answer. Does the state and TEA have any prior experience commandeering schools, and if so, were the results positive? Whether the current board is to blame for sub-par test performance or not, I doubt that state government can do any better.
Any teachers out there that know?
