Central Wins Bi-District Title, Other Area Teams Looking Dangerous In State Playoffs

 

EASTLAND, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats beat Forth Worth Paschal in the first round of the 6A volleyball playoffs Tuesday evening for the bi-district crown.  The win was all but a sure thing, though, and Central dropped the first two sets 22-25.  They turned things around after that and did not look back. 

Connie Bozarth's team rallied behind great performances from Steely Poss and Nadia Fierro to win the last three sets 25-17, 25-23, and 15-12.  Central will now play Montwood in the second round on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.  The Rams beat Frenship in four sets to escape the first round, 27-25, 25-16, 21-25, and 25-10.

From Around the Region:

6A - Midland Lee lost to El Paso Coronado in four sets 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16.

The Midland Bulldogs, meanwhile, beat El Paso Americas 25-18, 25-15, 17-25, 25-17.  They will face Arlington next.

4A - Midland Greenwood defeated Burkburnett 25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 25-8 to advance Tuesday.  They will face Argyle Thursday at 6:30 in Abilene. 

Brownwood was swept by Krum in three sets 25-12, 25-7, 25-22. 

3A - Wall cruised passed Alpine 25-11, 25-19, 25-9 to advance past the bi-district stage.  The Hawks' next opponent will be Brownfield on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  Brownfield ran past Tulia in three sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.

Sonora beat Crane 25-12, 25-15, 25-11.  The Lady Broncos will play Bushland on Saturday.  Bushland beat Littlefield in three sets to move to the second round.

TLCA was swept by Anthony.  The Grape Creek/Presidio final score is unavailable at this time.

2A - Miles (26-10) had a first round bye and will play Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

1A - Water Valley had a first round bye and will play Strawn on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Veribest beat Evant in three sets 25-15, 25-20, 25-14.  They will play Northside who is coming off a first round bye.

Bronte advanced to the second round after beating Mulin 25-8, 25-11, 25-17.  They will play Newcastle who had a first round bye.
