NWS: Rain Likely in the Concho Valley Followed by a Hard Freeze Wednesday Night

SAN ANGELO, TX – Residents in the Concho Valley can expect rain chances through late Wednesday then a hard freeze overnight into Thursday morning. 

According to the National Weather Service Office in San Angelo, a freeze watch is in effect from Wednesday night until 10 a.m. Thursday morning. 

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 possible.Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.

Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

In the mean time, some strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the southeastern counties this evening. The main hazards will be, small hail, damaging winds, and deadly lightning.

A chance of rain before 11a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 52. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1a.m. Wednesday morning with mostly cloudy skies with a low around 43. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1p.m. Wednesday then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Breezy, with a north wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday night it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Wind chill values between 17 and 22. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

And then Thursday, sunny, with a high near 56. North wind 10 to 15 mph.
