GCISD Honors Gene Marsh With District Board Room

SAN ANGELO, TX – Grape Creek ISD unveiled a special dedication of their district board room to former GCISD board member Gene Marsh. Mr. Marsh was a member of the school board for 17 years serving, most of the time as president of the board.

“He embodies the heart and mindset of each administrator and he is exactly the example of what it means to be a Grape Creek Eagle,” said Angie Smetana, Superintendent of Grape Creek ISD.

Mr. Marsh has been a staple in the Grape Creek community for many years and has always supported the district in each of its endeavors. He joined the board in May of 1991 and served until May of 2008. During this month’s board meeting Mr. Marsh was presented a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

“When we have an individual that is dedicated and has the heart to do the hard things, to be the wind beneath the wings of the district, teachers, and administrators - we need to honor them and let them know how special and unique they are,” said Smetana.

Mr. Marsh was visibly moved when the official plaque was unveiled with the new sign reading: Gene Marsh Board Room. He expressed his thanks to everyone that was there to support him and to the board members that had bestowed this recognition.

“I am just so excited; I can’t believe it,” said Mr. Marsh, “Thank them all so much for remembering me like this; I was so surprised.”

Mr. Marsh also received special certificates on behalf of State Senator Charles Perry and State Representative Drew Darby for his years of public service and dedication to improve the education standards of Grape Creek ISD.

Mr. Marsh's family, friends, and community members were present to commemorate the occasion.

Correction: Earlier title identified the room as a Community Room instead of District Room.
