Central Answers First Week Doubters by Blowing Out Del Rio

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Central Bobcats demolished the Del Rio Rams on Friday night and got their first win.

The bobcats started the game by kicking-off to the Rams.

The first drive for the bobcats started well as senior Defensive End Paulk got his first tackle for loss of the night. Del Rio used their first time out within the first two minutes but it didn’t help as they were forced to punt.

Central then started their drive after a dropped punt on the 30-yard-line. Quaterback Malachi Brown and Wide-out Tanner Dabbert hooked up multiple times on the first few plays.

Central took the drive to the 35-year-line but had to use Brown to punt the ball. Luckily for the Bobcats, the Rams had to start on the one yard line.

Thanks to a third down tackle for loss by senior Cornerback Tristan Lopez, Del Rio went three and out on the drive.

Central then took over on the 40-yard-line. This is when their running game really picked up. Runingback Kris Jackson and Brown both started the drive with long runs which put them inside the thirty.

Following the runs, two passes were thrown towards Dabbert and then an incompletion on a pass over the top made it fourth down on the 25-yard line.

Central’s Kicker Erick Rodriguez attempted his first field goal but missed short.

Del Rio took over the ball but didn’t do anything with it. Senior Defensive End Anthony Gonzales got his first sack of the game during the drive and forced the Rams three and out.

Central took over at the Rams 49-yard-line and first play Running Back Cameron Sarzosa took the ball to the 21-yard-line. They continued to drive by running the ball straight up the gut and ended the quarter on the 11-yard-line. The score at the end of the first quarter was 0-0.

The first play of the second quarter Jackson took the ball in for an 11-yard touchdown. Central got on the board first 7-0 with 11:56 still in the second quarter.

After the kickoff, junior Defensive Tackle Casear Saldana got a big tackle for loss. Two plays later the D-line pressured Del Rio’s QB Dominic Sanchez into throwing an interception to Ty Casey.

The Bobcats took over on the 12-yard-line and Brown found Christian Gabaldon for a touchdown. Momentum began swinging in favor of the Bobcats as they led 14-0 with a little of 10 minutes in the first half.

Another three plays that went nowhere for the Ram caused them to punt again. This punt rolled a long way but Central didn’t mind. The first play Brown ran it from the 23-yard-line to the 36 yard-line. The drive was later halted by an untimely sack by the Rams but the punt made Del Rio start on their own 10-yard-line.

The Bobcats continued to pressure Del Rio and nothing came out of the drive.

The following drive Bobcats looked like they were in striking range, but Brown through his first interception on Del Rio’s 15-yard-line.

The interception looked as if it would be the Rams break. They got a first down from a throw by Sanchez but were unable to build on the drive. The Rams felt gutsy and went for it on fourth but Central prevailed.

The bobcats took over on the 34-yard line and Brown found Dabbert for a touchdown on the first play. Central lead 21-0 with 2:44 left in the second quarter.

Three straight runs by the Rams caused fourth down and 13. The Rams attempted to punt the ball but it was blocked and recovered by junior CB Kyson Snelson in the Endzone bring the score to 28-0.

The Rams then ran out the clock and the two went into the locker room. The Bobcats blew past the Rams in the first half leading 28-0.

Central started the second half with a big return by Sophomore Kente Nicholas. Jackson then ran the ball from their own 45-yard-line to the 19-yard-line. Brown then found Dabbert once again for a 13-yard-touchdown. Bobcats extended their lead to 35-0 with 10:51 still left in the third quarter.

The same trends from the first half continued as the Rams went three and out. They punted the ball and Central started on their own 49-yard-line.

Brown and Dabbert continued to exploit the defense and on the first play the two made a 45-yard play that set the Bobcats up to score. This time Sarzosa barreled his way into the endzone for a 3-yard touchdown. Bobcats continued to put it on them and increased their lead to 42-0.

The next drive for Del Rio was mostly running until they broke a screen pass and for the first time in the game got into Central territory. They continued to pound the football but after a tackle of loss they were forced to take a shot for the endzone. Nelson intercepted that ball and took it to the 34-yard-line.

Unfortunately a mental mistake happened and the center Senior Carlos Luna snapped the ball over Brown’s head and they were forced to punt the ball.

Del Rio took over the ball near midfield and managed to get a few first downs through the air. This lead to the Rams finally getting on the board with their kicker Garbriel Zapata hitting a 33-yard field goal. Bobcats still lead 42-3.

With 1:21 seconds left in the game Coach Davis put in back-up Quarterback Senior Sam Farris. He was able to move the ball by hitting Cayden Box on a tightly thrown ball.

He was unable to score though and the Bobcats led at the end of the third 42-3.

The fourth quarter was filled with bench players for the bobcats. The second string managed to get score ten points in the quarter but gave up their first touchdown.

Bobcats win their first game 52-10.

Central gets their first win and moves to 1-1. Del Rio falls to 0-2.
